Overview

This case study examines the development of a carpooling app by the XYZ startup, aiming to create an intuitive and pleasant interface for the users. The proposal is to provide an economical and sustainable alternative for transportation, allowing users to share rides. The study focuses on identifying and proposing improvements in the interface, using the BlaBlaCar app as a reference.

The study focuses on identifying and proposing improvements in the interface, using the BlaBlaCar app as a reference.

The challenge

The main challenge faced by startup XYZ was to develop a carpooling app that met users' expectations, both in terms of usability and design.

When comparing XYZ's interface with that of BlaBlaCar, it was observed that the clarity of information and intuitive navigation were areas in need of improvement. Additionally, it was necessary to create a modern design that would attract users and increase app adoption.

Research

To better understand the needs of users, market research and comparative analyses were conducted with the BlaBlaCar app. Personas were created based on the collected data, representing different types of users with distinct needs and goals. The research identified critical areas for improvement, such as clarity in presenting carpooling information and simplicity in navigation.

Personas

Based on the information collected in the survey, personas will be created to represent the different types of users who use the BlaBlaCar app in order to better understand their pains and needs to improve its flow.

The process

The development process involved several stages, including creating a user journey for key tasks in the application, such as finding and offering carpooling. Low and high-fidelity prototypes were developed and tested with real users to validate the proposed solutions. The focus was on creating a dark mode interface, with soft colors to improve readability and visual comfort in different lighting conditions.

Tests performed

Two qualitative tests of the static prototype were performed to understand if users were able to comprehend the app's proposal. Prints of the research results are shown below. First test conducted on 04/06/2023:

Conclusion

The study concluded that the carpooling application from the startup XYZ, although still a prototype, was able to meet the main needs of users identified in the research. The proposed improvements in the interface, such as more intuitive navigation and a more attractive design, were well received in usability tests.

However, for the application to become a viable solution in the market, it is necessary to continue making adjustments and enhancements based on user feedback. The recommendation is that the startup maintains a continuous cycle of evaluation and development to ensure that the application remains aligned with user expectations and market trends.
